What is the TCMA Certification Program all about?
We are putting together a certification program that we will begin in fourth quarter of 2010. Through a curriculum of study and practicum-based experiences, we will be offering individuals the opportunity to be officially recognized as a “Certified Religious Media Specialist.” This would not only involve exposure to specific media technologies and practices, but also immersion in the Church’s documents on the use of media. We also will include an ethics and morals section, based on the Catechism and the social teachings of the Church regarding leadership and expression with respect to the world of social networking. Thus, the certification process will serve two ends. First, it will provide an educational framework to expand a person’s knowledge in their specialized area of media and communications as it relates to the Church. Second, it can become a sign of confidence, especially for new technology applications, that the site or communications content is in line with Catholic teaching
