What is the target population (scope) for the survey?
(G1) The target population is primary and secondary Teachers and Leaders currently employed in Australian schools. For the purposes of the survey, a Teacher is defined as a professionally qualified person employed to implement the educational program of the school through supporting students either by direct class contact or on an individual basis. Teaching staff includes principals, deputy principals, and senior teachers mainly involved in administration, and specialist teachers who do not have class teaching duties but who work with teachers or students in other ways e.g. as counsellors or teacher-librarians. To be eligible for the survey, a teacher needs to be employed at the school for at least one day per week during the Main Survey period (Term 4, 2006 and Term 1, 2007). This includes teachers employed on a permanent, casual or contractual basis, but excludes teachers on long-term leave during Term 4.
