top As far as dating famous instruments is concerned, we include in chapter 11 attempts at dating violins and cellos only available in photographs, as did P. Klein , E. Corona , W. Lottermoser et al. who were pioneers in the application of dendrochronology in the organological field. In chapter 12 there are examples of datings of actual instruments with details of their history, which stress how dating should be supported by further information, which might even bring a dating to the fore whose statistics were, up to then, less encouraging.
