What is the structure and the powers of the Senate Rules Committee?
The Senate Rules Committee, chaired by the president pro tempore, is composed of four other members elected by the state Senate. This committee has the power to appoint all other Senate committees, designate chairs and vice chairs of standing committees, and decide which committee will consider each bill. The committee also makes recommendations on the confirmation of many gubernatorial appointments. The rules committee decides which senators will serve on executive and judicial boards and commissions. All expenditures and claims for reimbursement by Senate committees must be approved by this committee.
