What is the strongest metals?
The strength of a metal is only loosely correlated with melting point. Stregth must be mechanically defined in and then ranked in terms of youngs modulus which puts iron and nickel up there. Copper is weak, lead, tin etc. Tantalum is a nice strong metal. Titanium, aluminium, beryllium are not at all strong by comparison to steel. They just happen to be very strong for their weight. If you want to a build a hefty bridge, you do it from steel and not ally. Alloys further make pure metals exceedingly strong. Beryllium steel I remember was a good one; Vanadium steel with very hard, and can take shock. Tungsten Carbide is truely a marvel in how muich compression rods furnished of can take – but shatter readily. Tungsten Carbide ram rods used in double kelly piston diametric-arrangement force actuators in certain chemical reactions compress things by upto 21GPascal (210k atmospheres). I think that may be one of the highest, not sure.
