What is the story behind Passover?
Passover recounts the story of how God freed the Jewish people from slavery. Jewish slavery began in Ancient Egypt when Pharaoh feared that the Jewish people were becoming too strong and began to enslave them and kill all Jewish newborns. When Jacob’s great-grandson, Amram and his wife Yocheved had their third child, Yocheved placed this child in a basket near the Nile Rile in an attempt to save her son from being killed. This child was found by Pharaoh’s daughter and was named Moses and raised by her in the palace. Yocheved was hired as the nurse, and taught Moses about the Jewish heritage. The slavery did not stop and Moses decided it was time to fight back. He urged Pharaoh to free the Jewish people, and when Pharaoh refused, Moses warned him that God would punish both him and his people with plagues. After 10 plagues, Pharaoh finally agreed to let the Jewish people go. The Jewish people left Egypt quickly and made it to the Red Sea where they were then confronted by Pharaoh’s troop
