The idea was to be forgiven of sins you had to sin so by having sex they could be forgiven. This could have been propaganda against him along with his apparent liaisons with many wives of the Russian nobility. He’s exact prediction was: Tsar of the land of Russia, if you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, you must know this: if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family, that is to say, none of your children or relations, will remain alive for more than two years. They will be killed by the Russian people. It was also noted in the autopsy of his body that he had water in his lungs indicating that he may have died from drowning rather than freezing to death in the ice cold river.
