I think there is no real stereotype of one person who lives in the Village – keep in mind that the village is made up of a ton of NYU students, wealthy bankers, gay singles & families…all along with some of the older people who have lived there since the radical 70’s when it was all artists and bohemians. (Most of them have been priced out or thrown out by NYU….) Lower East Side – used to be all immigrants – now there are luxury condos going up on every block and the area has more people with money and less of the Chinese, Hispanic and Eastern Europeans that lived there Soho – used to be all artists – but again they have mostly been forced out due to high rents and development. Many celebrities live in Soho with the high end boutiques and restaurants Upper East & West Sides – white, upper middle class to the very rich.
