What is the status of the Risk Assessment of the land for the new centre? Can citizens be assured that there will be no health and environmental hazards?
The Risk Assessment (formerly called a Site Specific Risk Assessment) approach is a Ministry of the Environment recognized method to managing Brownfield sites. The Risk Assessment identifies potential risks or hazards and proposes strategies to eliminate them. The City of Orillia has undertaken a Risk Assessment to assure the public that there will be no health and environmental hazards. After review and consultation the City will submit an updated risk assessment to the Ministry of the Environment and with a positive response from the MoE the City will move forward with next steps.
