What is the status of the nomination of the Wylfa area for possible nuclear development?

0

The Wylfa area was nominated as a potential nuclear development site by both the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and RWE npower. On 9 November 2009, the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Ed Milliband announced that Wylfa was one of 10 sites included in the draft Nuclear National Policy Statement (NPS). The Government has now begun a programme of detailed consultation on this document and held Wylfa specific events on 7-9 January 2010. Consultation closes on 22 February 2010 and a draft NPS, with suggested sites, is put before Parliament for approval in 2010. After that, individual developers, such as Horizon Nuclear Power would be required to seek planning and other consents to build a new station and this would involve further public consultation.
