What is the status of employment of differently abled in India?
The overall scenario is not very encouraging, in fact pathetic. Only 1-2% of disabled are employed. We do not have figures for rural area but there acceptance of disability by society is higher because of peace of life. In comparison Urban life is largely result oriented & if a person fails to produce result, he is usually rejected by society. In rural areas jobs are not intellectual but functional. There is greater scope for dignified employment for disabled in rural areas. In city life, peon may not have a dignified place but in villages these differences may not matter much. What are the typical jobs for disabled ? We cannot say with certainty about such jobs but in jobs like software development, front offices they are more visible. Why the 3% researvations in Government Offices are not fully filled up ? To a great extent, this vacancy arises from inability of disabled to meet minimum requirements of competitive job.
