What is the status of children homes in India?
Most of the existing children homes in India are functioning in non transparent & closed manner & do not allow children to participate with outside world. Most of the welfare programmes for children are managed without regard to efficiency & transparency. How do you ensure participation of children with outside world? We ensure it by adopting unique methods. In Prayas homes, except Observatory Home at Ferozshah Kotla, there is no security. Parents & guardians can meet children without prior permission. They can even take them out for recreation. Secondly, these children regularly go to school, picnics & fares. They even visit other slums as a volunteer to teach slum dwellers. In this manner, entire civil society participates with these children for their rehabilitation It is good that you adopted a route of partnership with the government ?
