What is the standard procedure when it comes to tips?
We recommend that you tip the porters at least US $12 – US $15 (approx 45 soles). Generally, groups prepare a collective tip which is given to the porters and the cook on the third night. Please keep in mind that tipping the porters and crew is really more of a tradition, but you do not need to feel obliged. A group of 16 passengers generally have about 18 – 20 porters. For those who have hired extra porters to carry personal items, it is suggested that for each 9 kilos a further tip of US $5 is added to the collective tip. It is customary to thank the 2 guides with a voluntary tip after the tour of Machu Picchu on Day 4.
