What is the Spelling program?
The Spelling program we will be using this year has four main components. First, we will be using the Rebecca Sitton Spelling Program which consists of 1200 high-use writing words in order of frequency of use in writing. Students will receive a list of the first 400 words. These words are called NO EXCUSE WORDS. This means students should spell all these words correctly all the time in their writing. Students will receive the next 200 words as part of their spelling program this year. There will be spelling homework and activities each week to help students learn the spelling for these words. There will not be a weekly test. Instead, students will be assessed through their daily writing assignments as well as through dictations and cloze activities. The second component of our spelling program will be introducing vocabulary (BIG WORDS) words from the curriculum. We will spend some time studying and using this words throughout the unit. Eventually, these words will be placed on the No E
