What is the special motion call? Are continuances granted on special call hearings?
The special motion call is heard every Friday, except the 1st Friday of each month. Outside collection firms, acting as special counsel, prosecute the case on behalf of the City. The only issue before the court is whether you received notice of the original violation, which would explain why you did not appear at the initial hearing. If the Administrative Law Officer (ALO) determines that the original notice was improperly served, your motion to set-aside the default will be granted and the case will be continued to a new date for a hearing on the original violation. Continuances are also granted if additional evidence is required or requested by the Administrative Law Officer or either party to the hearing action.
