What is the source of CUNY’s funding?
The budget for the University is appropriated by the State and the City. The State of New York is the principal funding source of the University, financing 50 % of the Fiscal Year 2010 operating budget. Tuition Revenue, which must be recognized and appropriated by the City and State, is the second largest source of funding, comprising 39 % of the FY2009 operating budget. The City of New York finances the remaining 11 % of the cost of operating City University.
