What is the Sonoran Solar Energy Project?
The Sonoran Solar Energy Project is a proposed 375-megawatt (MW) concentrated solar thermal (CST) power plant and ancillary facilities including a 500 kilovolt (kV) transmission line, water supply facilities, a natural gas pipeline, and an access road. The project would be built on 3,702 acres of BLM-administered land in the Little Rainbow Valley, east of State Route 85, and south of the Buckeye Hills and the town of Buckeye in Maricopa County, Arizona. The facility is expected to operate for 30 years.
