What is the socialist view on human nature?

Perhaps all people have a tendency to be greedy, but I tell you this, if you place them in a society where greed is encouraged and rewarded and where the driving force of the economy is greed, then they will definitely be greedy. It is giving up on human nature before you even start. There are benefits to all societies where as, a common pact, the citizens restrain their greed. In some situations it is essential. I believe we face such a situation now with the dual threats of peak oil and global warming. Free market economics have no anwers to these problems. That is why those who dogmatically espouse complete free markets have chosen to deny these problems exist, and some even have resorted to disinformation campaigns, rather than explain how their favoured economic system will deal with them. We are doomed. Edit to Cropoc60… Look I don’t want to get distracted into a debate about global warming because that is not what the question is about, but if there is an adequate alternative
