What is the Social-democratic view on nuclear power plants?

0

I think that the opinions of the centre-left on nuclear power has changed to a large extent over the past couple of years, as the increasing urgency of taking action on global warming has become more and more apparent. The position a couple of years ago was one of almost complete opposition to nuclear power, but now I think there is a rather grudging acceptance that nuclear power (at least in the short to medium term) must play a major role as a viable alternative to fossil fuels. That is at least the case in the UK – different countries have different sets of circumstances which need to be considered. Even many in the Green movement these days (including myself) accept that nuclear power must neccessarily have a role to play if the worst consquences of global warming are to be prevented in the not so distant future.
