What is the smallest type of region there is data for?

A. The smallest geographic region is a Collection District (CD). Only data from the Census of Population and Housing is available at this geographic level. For access to Census data see the Census of Population and Housing entry page. For more information on CDs see Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC) (cat. no. 1216.0). A new geography classification will replace the ASGC from July 2011. The new classification, called the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) will replace CDs with Statistical Area 1’s (SA1s) as the smallest output level of geography for the 2011 Census. There will be approximately 55,000 SA1s compared with 38,704 CDs across the whole of Australia. SA1s will have an average population of approximately 400 people. They will generally not be comparable to CDs. For more information see the Geography portal.
