What is the smallest lifespan animal on earth?
Male deep sea angler fish are often 1/20th the size of the female. The sole purpose of his existence on earth is to find a female angler fish. As soon as he hatches, he is equipped with olfactory organs that allow him to find a female quickly, but he is not anatomically equipped to find food or ingest food. Once he finds a female, he bites into the female’s body and becomes attached to her. All of his organs, except for his testes, degenerate, so that he in effect becomes an organ of the female’s body and he ceases to exist as an independent animal. The male of some anglerfish never eats and he lives just long enough after hatching to find a female.
