What is the size of an engagement ring diamond?
I think something which plays a large role (apart from the marketing) is the style of the cut. In the UK the most popular choice by far is the brilliant cut diamond, which gives arguably the greatest bang for your buck (table size/cost). The US tends to fluctuate more in terms of the styles which means the cuts such as the emerald cut are going to need to be bigger. My fiance did not want to have a big diamond as she only has small hands (perhaps the average hand size in america is bigger 🙂 ). I personallty think quality is better than quantity and bought a .75 ct D Flawless diamond. If you are worried i suggest you talk to your partner and see what they are interested. Some will rather show of and as such go for a HUGE rock….if they are more interested in the purity and rarity then get the best quality.
