What is the situation with ethnic cleansing in Kosovo?
Ethnic cleansing is nothing new in Kosovo. It has been occurring since the second World War. The current 90% Albanian majority in Kosovo is primarily the result of a constant campaign of harrassment and terror against local Serbs. In fact the term “ethnically clean” was first used by Albanian rebel leaders in the 1980’s to describe their goals for Kosovo. However, nobody took note, and it was only during the war in Bosnia, when all three combatting sides “cleansed” territories of the opposing populations, that the term reached prominence in the media. Ethnic cleansing is a tragic and regrettable reality of all wars in the Balkans since time immemorial. The current wave of alleged ethnic cleansing is difficult to verify due to the expulsion of most western media from the country by Milosevic’s regime; however, it can be said with certainty that the campaign became heightened after the NATO bombings began, as paramilitary units took advantage of the chaos. The KLA ethnically cleansed mos
