As of 29 August 2009, 23:00 hours, Cairo time, 5,031 laboratory-confirmed cases of Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 were reported to WHO by 21 out of 22 Member States of WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region. A total of 524 of these reported cases were locally transmitted. Djibouti became the latest country in the Region to report cases of pandemic (H1N1) 2009. There are 21 related deaths from Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 reported, so far, from the Region. These deaths were reported from Egypt (1), Iraq (1), Islamic Republic of Iran (1), Kuwait (4), Lebanon (1), Oman (6), Palestine (1), Saudi Arabia (4), Qatar (1) and Yemen (1). Since the last reporting date (22 August 2009), an additional 508 laboratory-confirmed cases of Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 were reported from 12 Member States: Djibouti (7), Egypt (194), Islamic Republic of Iran (47), Iraq (70), Jordan (14), Kuwait (109), Libya (1) Morocco (26), Palestine (7), Syrian Arab Republic (8), Tunisia (20) and Yemen (5). No report was available from other countries.
