The Sinus Tarsi describes the space between the ankle bone and the heel bone. What is Sinus Tarsi Syndrome? As you walk, the ankle bone and heel bone are moving relative to each other with each step. Sometimes the soft tissues that hold these bones together become strained, and this is known as sinus tarsi syndrome. What can be done for Sinus Tarsi Syndrome? Sinus Tarsi Syndrome may actually be difficult to treat, as the joint affected is so important to each step we take. X-rays, CT and/or MRI may be suggested to rule out an underlying cause to the complaint. But when the pain does appear to rest within the soft tissues, there are several possible treatment options. Rest and immobilization, physiotherapy, massage, taping, ice or heat, medications such as anti-inflammatories or steroid injections all may be useful.
