What is the significance of World AIDS Day?
World AIDS Day, which started in 1988, is about increasing awareness, education and fighting prejudice. World AIDS Day is important in reminding people that HIV has not gone away, and that there are many things still that we need to do. The World AIDS Campaign’s organizes activities in observance of World AIDS Day, the theme selected for last year’s activities was “Stop AIDS: Keep the Promise”. This theme will remain the focus until 2010. “Keep the Promise” is an appeal to governments and policy makers to ensure they meet the targets they have agreed to in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
