What is the significance of the red dot that Hindu people wear on their foreheads?
In Hindu culture, a red dot or a piece of jewelery in the centre of the forehead is called a bindi. It is an extension of the practice of tilak, which is putting decorations on the 6th chakra in the forehead to retain the energy of the chakra, imrove concentration and protect against demons. The bindi is traditionally only worn by married hindu women, but it’s popularity has spread and it can now be seen worn as a style statement by women whether they are married or not and indeed whether they are hindu or not.
