What is the significance of the neolithic period?
Put simply, the Neolithic Age of history is significant mostly because it marked a gradual end of the nomadic hunter-gatherer travelling as a family unit and shift towards more settled farming communities living in fixed locations. This also saw a gradual increase in the human population as the land was made more fruitful and it was possible to support more people from any given area of land. There were developments in social organisation, technology, animal domestication and structure building. In effect, the Neolithic Age laid the template for the sedentary way of life that we still lead today. The big problem with saying much about the Neolithic Age is that it spans such a large time span in which many events are likely to have happened and developments taken place. We are also almost entirely dependent on archaeology to tell us anything about this period in history, and most of what was built or made will have decomposed in the ground and been lost.
