What is the significance of the bell in front of the Police Station?

Answer…… The bell was the Lawton Police Department’s first means of communication. The bell was mounted on top of the old City Hall in the early 1900’s. When a police officer was needed to answer a call, he was summoned to the Police Station by the ringing of the bell. It remained as the only communication means until 1931 when the two police cars were equipped with radio receivers only. In 1936, the first two-way radio systems were placed in use.
