What is the significance of mendhi in a Hindu wedding ceremony?
It isn’t religious. It is more of a celebration of life and change. In some cultures both man and woman wear mehndi and they say the redder and darker it is the longer and better their marriage will be. They say that the bride doesn’t have to do any housework while she is still wearing signs of her recent wedding. Typically there is a night of mehndi before the wedding and not just the bride gets decorated. Many family members may get their own henna applied. There will be dancing and music and food at the event. It’s a great happy celebration. I’ve done wedding mehndi for people and it’s a happy event to work. Just a grand festival, a joyful celebration as is most mehndi affairs.
