What is the significance of delivering the daffodils in March?
In addition to being the first month of spring, March is also National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal cancer is the third most common cause of cancer and cancer death in both men and women in the United States (accounting for 10 percent of all cancers). While nearly 150,000 Americans will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer and more than 55,000 will die from the disease in 2006, these numbers could be cut in half if Americans followed the American Cancer Society’s screening recommendations for colon cancer. Every March, the Society celebrates National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month to raise awareness about this disease. Daffodil Days provides the Society with another important opportunity to communicate this message about colorectal cancer prevention and early detection.
