What is the significance of bloody sunday?
There were two days named Bloody Sunday in 20th Century Irish History the first in 1920 where 14 British agents were killed by the IRA. In a follow up search operation at Croke Park Irish Police and Auxillaries supported by the British Army (Sometimes referred to as British Crown Forces) opened fire after claims (which have never been substantiated) they came under fire, only one revolver was found afterwards discarded. 14 civilians died from the Police bullets. Later in the day 3 IRA men died while in custody escaping (various claims about the circumstances abound) bringing the death toll to 31 for the day. The second Bloody Sunday was in 1972.
