What is the significance of a strike vote?
• A. The strike vote is important because once a union receives strike authorization from its members, it may call a strike without presenting any more information to them. In other words, members lose their right to decide to strike if they vote to give that authority directly to the union. For example, unions presented with contract offers by employers after members have given them strike authorization sometimes do not even tell members about those offers. They just go ahead and call a strike.
