What is the signifcance of Pearl Harbor?

During the early years of World War 2 the US provided funds, weapons and ships to help the allied powers. Until the attack of Pearl Harbor Congress did not want to be an active member of the war. After our base was attacked the US pulled out all stops and went full tilt into the war fighting both the Japanese who attacked December 7, 1941 and helping the allied troops after Germany declared war on us December 11, 1941.
