What is the shoreline mileage of the Bay?
The shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay and its tidal tributaries is 11,684 miles. The shoreline mileage of the Chesapeake Bay was calculated using NOAA’s digital high resolution representation of the Chesapeake Bay shoreline at mean high water shoreline. The digital representation was compiled by NOAA using nautical charts (1:10k-1:80k) and is generally referred to as NOAA’s 1:24 scale data of the Chesapeake Bay and tributaries.
