Derek Dooley, the head coach AND athletic director of Louisiana Tech (and son of UGA legend Vince Dooley), has been hired by Tennessee to be their next head coach, according to the Sports Animal in Knoxville (via Clay Travis on Twitter). The news is somewhat surprising as Kippy Brown was believed to be interviewing today, but at the same time, not shocking: Tennessee was just rejected by David Cutclifffe (who, mind you, coaches Duke football and is a former UT OC), among several candidates. Things were getting hairy around Knoxville and Mike Hamilton needed to make a move fast. That probably doesn’t mean that too many people will be fist-pumping around the school, however — Dooley’s resume is pretty strong, coaching with Nick Saban for several years in both college and the pros before leaving the Dolphins to take his gig at Louisiana Tech in 2007.
