What is the shelf life or expiration of sunscreen? Is it safe to use after it has expired?
A common misconception is that sunscreen expires after one year. A sunscreen’s shelf life depends on its formula stability. Rocky Mountain Sunscreen’s stability testing gives all of our Original Formula products (SPF 15, 30, 45, & 50) a three year shelf life. Our new formulas for 2010 (SPF 35 & 70) are expected to achieve similar stability testing. Our sunscreens are safe to use after the suggested shelf life, however, the active ingredients will become less effective.
