Ex-Iowa was built by New York Navy Yard and commissioned in 1943. She was decommissioned in 1949, re-commissioned in 1951 and decommissioned again in 1958. After many years in storage, the ship was modernized and re-commissioned in 1984 and finally decommissioned in 1990. The ship was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register in 1995 and restored to the NVR in 1999. Ex-Iowa earned nine battle stars during WWII service. She transported President Roosevelt to Casablanca for the Tehran Conference in 1943. She also earned two battle stars during the Korean War.
