What is the Sergeants Major Academy?
It is an institution of higher learning through the United States Army. It’s responsible for training and educating soldiers and noncommissioned officers throughout their military careers. Q. How is the academy changing? We are in the midst of some profound changes here at the academy. What we teach, how we teach it and how we are organized to teach are all changing, and that is all happening simultaneously. Every single one of the courses we are responsible for is under some type of revision or complete transformation. Q. Why are the changes being made? It has to do with fighting terrorism. Most things that are happening in the Army right now are a byproduct of what has happened in the global war on terror over the past eight years. About four years ago, the Army commissioned a study to determine the role of the noncommissioned officer and whether or not NCOs were receiving the best training and education to do their job in this war.
