The selection process to become a SMC member is to complete the items below: • Phase 1: Nomination by the NCO’s first sergeant (1SG) using the SMC 1SG nomination and performance evaluation packet in appendix E of AE Regulation 600-2. • Phase 2: Initial-selection board at battalion level or equivalent. • Phase 3: Intermediate-selection board at brigade level or equivalent. • Phase 4: Final-selection board at the designated nominative CSM level.
