The EFF assistance to inland fishing will cover investments in inland fishing facilities with the purpose of improving safety, working conditions hygiene, product quality or enhancing and protecting the environment. Vessels operating in inland waters can receive modernisation aid along the lines of vessels engaged in marine fishing. However, no aid for the construction of inland fishing vessels will be permitted so as not to jeopardize the equilibrium between the fleet concerned and the targeted resources.For the first time, compensation for the temporary cessation of inland fishing activities may be granted where such cessation derives from Community conservation measures such as the eel recovery action plan. Moreover the EFF will contribute to the reassignment of inland fishing vessels for activities outside fishing.
