An acquired brain injury (ABI) is caused by an external physical force, such as hitting one’s head in car accident, and can impair thinking, memory, sensation, language, and/or emotion. At least 5.3 million Americans require support with daily activities as a result of an acquired brain injury. There are 1.5 million new cases of acquired brain injury each year in the US, with 3,000 new cases yearly in Oregon alone.
