What is the scientific theory of a pendulum?
A pendulum measures the ratio between time and gravity. The length between the fulcrum and the center of weight on the end is the part of the pendulum that matters even though the actual pendulum is is longer. Longer pendulums take longer to complete a cycle than shorter pendulums. A child’s swing is a long pendulum. Take a string a few inches long, attach a weight to the end, and compare its swing to how it takes a child on a swing to go through one cycle. A grandfather clock has a pendulum with a period of about one second. The length of the pendulum is set at the factory for the average point in the United States. Gravity meters exist. If your Grandfather clock gains or loses time, You can reset the length of the pendulum as determined by a gravity meter. Once you know the gravity and the ratio, you can get the time.
