What is the scientific name for labrador retriever?
In the United States, purebred Labrador retrievers can come in three colors called black, chocolate, and yellow. (There is no such thing as a “silver” or “golden” Labrador.) Labradors are classified as Sporting Dogs by the AKC (called Gundogs in the U.K.). They originated in the 1700s in what is now Newfoundland from a breed that is now exctinct called the St. Johns Dog or Water Dog. Labradors are closely related to Newfoundlands (Newfies).
