What is the science behind EyePromise Restore?
The AREDS II (Aged-Related Eye Disease Study) clinical trials currently underway by the National Eye Institute intend to demonstrated that nutritional supplements can slow the progression of AMD. In fact, the original AREDS formula was proved effective in 25% of patients at risk for AMD, however the critical nutrients for central vision, zeaxanthin and lutein, were not commercially available at the time the original study took place. New findings since AREDS raise concerns about two ingredients in the AREDS formulation: zinc at high levels and beta-carotene. Subsequently, Bausch & Lomb, Alcon and other bionutraceutical companies introduced AREDS-based formulas containing lutein. No other supplement on the market contains the amount of zeaxanthin you can find in EyePromise supplements. Zeaxanthin is preferentially deposited at a 2:1 ratio vs. lutein in the center of the macula. However, Zeaxanthin is far less prevalent in the average diet than lutein, and needs to be supplemented.
