What is the scaphoid bone, and how is it fixed?
What happened: On April 19 in his second at-bat against the Atlanta Braves at PNC Park, Ryan Doumit felt “more like a pull than a pop” in his right wrist when he hit a ground ball. He played several more innings, and didn’t report any problems with the wrist until he went to the park on Monday, according to reports out of the Pirates last week. An x-ray did not show a break, but an MRI and later a CAT scan showed that Doumit had fractured the scaphoid bone in his right wrist.
