What is the Santa Fe Trail National New Mexico National Scenic Byway Alliance?
The Alliance is a group of individuals, businesses, and non-profit corporations that collaborate to ensure that the historic Santa Fe Trail in New Mexico is preserved, protected and promoted while giving visitors an insight into the colorful history of the area. The alliance developed a Corridor Management Plan (CMP) in 1997 that lists the many sites along the byway that are historically, culturally, recreationally or archeologically significant. The CMP provides guidance for promoting and preserving the byway and its many assets while enhancing the visitor’s experience along the Santa Fe Trail. Funding for signage, wayside exhibits, kiosks, and printed and electronic materials, which help the Alliance accomplish its goals and objectives set in the CMP, is provided through grants from America’s Byways, alliance membership dues, and other donations.
