What is the sanitary sewer charge on my bill?
The sanitary sewer service is a fixed-rate charge based on the type of property being served. The revenue is used to recover expenses for operating and maintaining the wastewater collection system, which includes hundreds of sanitary sewer pump stations and thousands of miles of collection and transmission lines. The wastewater collection system transports your wastewater to the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) for treatment. If you receive sanitary sewer services from Virginia Beach Public Utilities, you will also receive a bimonthly bill from HRSD for treatment of your wastewater.
