The starting salary for a freshly qualified Cost Accountant can vary anywhere between Rs.4,00,000/- to Rs.6,00,000/- per annum. It will depend on the work experience the person has gained prior to becoming a Cost Accountant and the type of Industry you are getting into once you become a qualified Cost Accountant, namely manufacturing, service, BPO/KPO, banks, financial institutions, consultancy, etc. Pay package will also depend on whether you are working in India or Overseas. However, a survey conducted in 2007 and 2008 has found that there is a huge shortage of qualified accounting professionals in India ie. Cost Accountants (ICWA) and Chartered Accountants (CA).
