What is the salary for a PCV in China?
As volunteers, PCVs do not receive a salary but get a monthly living allowance. The living allowance is a standard rate for all Volunteers in China and once a year, the Peace Corps office conducts a survey to ensure that the allowance is sufficient to live a safe and healthy life. Volunteers use their living allowance to cover their basic expenses like food, clothing, entertainment, personal items and local travel. In addition to the living allowance, volunteers also receive allowances for vacation and readjustment. Vacation allowance is paid monthly in Chinese RMB at a rate of US$24. The readjustment allowance accrues at a rate of US$225/month and is only available once you have completed your Peace Corps Service. There are exceptions in case of student loan payments and family emergencies.
